NEW POSITION: Building Maintenance Officer.

The Health Clinic is seeking a volunteer handyperson to provide assistance with various small maintenance tasks that arise throughout the year. Duties may include installing a lock, changing light bulbs or fixing a drawer…There is an opportunity for this person to join our Clinic Operations group that oversees property maintenance. We would also invite applicants to consider joining our Board of Directors through this role as Building Maintenance Officer. Job Opening – Seniors Program Coordinator

The Galiano Health Care Society is looking for someone to be the Coordinator of Senior’s Health and Recreation programs. Project to run Oct 1, 2012 – March 31-2013, with possibility of extension, 6 hours per week, $20/hr. Applicants should have basic computer, report writing skills, good communications skills, a preferred background in seniors or volunteer programs, experience in community development work, and be an independent, mature worker. Galiano Island Announces a New Doctor’s Journal Club

Today we are announcing the Galiano Island Journal Club for local and rural physicians.  A “Journal Club” is a group where colleagues can meet to discuss recent research papers, trends in the profession, and relevant cases in their areas of interest.

The journal club’s initial members are Dr. C. Laird Birmingham (epidemiologist), Dr. Brian Russell (paediatrician), Dr. Cathy Stephenson (paediatric anaesthetist) and Dr. Janice Mason (sports medicine).

Dr. Laird Birmingham is the Medical Director at the Woodstone Residential Treatment Centre for Eating Disorders on Galiano.

Dr. Russell comes to us from Campbell River where he was chief of medical staff. He is doing his best to “retire” to Galiano (and appears to have a very different idea of retiring than most) while at the same time leaving Campbell River’s medical situation set up for success going forward.

Dr. Stephenson trained in Britain and practiced at BC Children’s hospital. One of her main interests has been teaching anaesthetist residents and junior doctors.
