Better at Home Service Provider
About the Role
GHCS requires a part-time Service Provider for our Better at Home program that helps seniors with simple, non-medical, home support services, so they can continue to live independently in their own homes and remain connected to their communities. Responsibilities may include light housekeeping, friendly visiting, and light yard work, depending on the successful candidate’s skills and experience.Client visits will primarily take place in the north end of Galiano Island. This position also requires attendance at Chit Chat Café each Wednesday from 10:30- 1:30 pm. This position begins at 8-10 hours per week, with the potential for additional hours as the program grows.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Schedule all client visits, and communicate any changes or cancellations in a timely manner
- Maintain records of all client visits
- Communicate with supervisor regarding changes to client needs or other requests
- Build rapport with clients and develop trusting relationships
- Maintain up to date knowledge about available services in the community for older adults
- Share information with clients about community services and supports available to older adults
- Attend all mandatory BAH staff training and meetings
- Work 10:30am-1:30pm at Wednesday Chit Chat Café
The ideal candidate has these qualifications:
Education
- Combination of relevant education and experience.
- Strong knowledge of issues facing seniors and challenges related to elder wellness
- Experience working with people of diverse backgrounds
Skills and Abilities
- Able to maintain strict confidentiality, essential in a small community
- Previous housekeeping experience is required.
- Experience with, or genuine interest in working with older adults
- Demonstrated excellence in communication skills with a focus on kindness, empathy, and emotional intelligence
- Ability to work with diverse individuals and represent the Galiano Health Care Society with professionalism
- Reliable, dependable, and able to work independently.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule
- Ability to follow strict health and safety protocols
- First Aid & CPR an asset
- Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle
- Successful results of criminal records check

Casual Registered Nurse: Clinic and Weekend On Call Shifts
What we need:
Reporting to the Executive Director and the Medical Director, the Registered Nurse (RN) practices to the full scope of the standards of practice as established by the provincial registration body, British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwifes (BCCNM) and works in close collaboration with the inter-professional clinical team to manage the delivery of clinical services. As the sole RN on shift, you will work autonomously and collaboratively with the Physician to deliver excellence in patient centered care. We are looking to build a pool of casual RNs to enhance our clinic and weekend on-call team. Shifts and hours available are subject to change based on operational needs.
Required qualifications:
- BScN graduate from a recognized nursing program.
- Current practicing registration with British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)
- CPR-C Certification, ACLS, PALS.
- Completion of or current/planned enrollment in First Call Nurse Certification.
- 1+ years of clinical experience in a primary and or/urgent care environment.
Your duties & responsibilities will include:
- Collaborating with other healthcare team members to coordinate client care and ensure that all healthcare needs are being met.
- Triage, assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care for patients who require high priority care within 24 hours. Apply critical thinking skills within safe limits of patient care.
- Performing chronic disease management and tracking as-well as communicable disease management activities.
- Documenting client information, including medical histories, care plans, and treatment outcomes, to ensure that accurate and up-to-date information is available to all healthcare providers involved in a clients’ care.
- Administering medications and a variety of other treatments as prescribed by physicians or other healthcare providers. These treatments and assessments include vaccinations, suture/staple removal, assisting physicians with biopsy, medication injections, driver’s medical initiations, and other treatments as required.
- Assist physicians with emergency patients brought to the clinic via ambulance, monitor while awaiting transport to higher level of care.
- Educating clients about their healthcare needs, treatment options, and self-care techniques.
- Developing individualized care plans for clients, which may include medication administration, wound care, and other interventions.
- Weekend shifts as On Call Nurse, working with physicians from Mayne and Pender islands as well as BCEHS for in-person patient care as directed.
- Other duties as assigned and agreed.
Salary range is $41.42-$72.39/hr based on BCNU wage grid.
