We couldn’t do what we do; without the help of the Galiano Island Community
Galiano Island residents and visitors receive quality medical care. Without committed volunteers, whether they be board members, volunteer drivers, friendly visitors, mental health advocates, or cookie bakers for the Seniors Social Program, the Health Care Society could not support local residents. The Galiano Health Care Society would like to thank Galiano, especially those of you who donate your time and funds – every action and every dollar helps us continue to meet the changing health and social needs within the community.
Thank you to all who attend the wine festival and donate items for the silent auction, the cooks, the cleaners and especially the Lions!
How Can I Volunteer Too?
Like many island organizations, the Galiano Health Care Society is volunteer run. From the Volunteer Board of Directors to the volunteers who run our Volunteer Services programs, to the Lion’s and community members who conduct local fundraising events such as our Plant Sale and Golf Tournament, we depend on, and are indebted to these people and their energy that they give so generously to our community.
Examples of Volunteer Activities
- Support Groups – examples could be monthly coffee house drop-in, welcome wagon, walking clubs, etc.
- Education – workshops and forums, plays and performances, phone tree for participation, liaison with publicity, food committee, etc.
- Friendly Visiting – support for isolation, support for elder and disabled population, could also be support for persons with mental health issues like depression.
- Publicity /fundraising – making posters, signs, visibility for public education, email contacts, face book page, website for Galiano Mental Health and wellness.
- Advocacy and Lobbying– working for more funding for mental health, responding to government cuts, etc.
