Adopt an AED
We are seeking dedicated donors and volunteers to help us maintain our AED (Automated External Defibrillator Units)
What we have:
The 15 AEDs around Galiano Island, originally donated by a generous resident, require regular maintenance checks, currently completed by our wonderful Volunteer Fire Departments. The battery packs and pads, however, need to be replaced every two years. The expense for this has gone up by almost 200% in the last few years, with GHCS bearing the cost of over $8000 in 2025.
What we need:
Donors to “adopt” an AED, at a cost of $500 bi-annually (the cost of the replacement battery and pads).
and/or
Volunteers to “adopt” an AED to care for. The care involved? Visiting your AED once a month to check on it,
make sure it’s happy and functioning, and check if it’s been used. Report any issues back to us.
What you get:
- The priceless knowledge that you’re keeping a life-saving machine functioning;
- The gratitude of your community;
- If you wish, you may name the machine and we’ll affix a plaque to it in commemoration; and
- Should you choose donation, you’ll receive a tax receipt.
